Quickie - 55 fiction!

His
He looked at their smiling picture. It had been four years since he last saw her, spoke with her, touched her... but he still missed her terribly, more so today. He kissed the frame as a tear fell from his eye. someone knocked on the door. It’s time... to move on. Today was his wedding.

Hers
Today was his wedding. She looked at him affectionately. For the last four years, this was what she had wanted... that he would move on. She smiled sadly as he kissed their picture. She tried to wipe his tears, but couldn’t... like always. He left and she realized... It’s time. She was finally at peace.

Of Tears, Knife and Lonliness...

Sitting by myself in this big lonely house, I am a solitary weeper...
If you were here you would have stroked my cheek and wiped my tear,
but you are not around, you have left me all alone... one more time,
and I stare at my brooding reflection in the shining blade of the knife,
It is time, I know it well enough... I can't postpone the inevitable,
this task I have to do myself as everyone else is so unreliable,
I have to move on ahead and do it 'cos, except you, I trust no other minion,
I just wish that you were here as you would have surely, for me, cut this damn onion!

HaPpY BiRtHdAy HuBby... :*

Patient to the core,
Reliable, he makes everyone feel so secure...
Awesome and Amazing,
Brooding but very very caring...
Alluring, he has a certain charm,
Loving and so very warm...

That's my darling husband for you whom I love and adore, care for and respect from the bottom of my heart...
Today on his Birthday, I wish the stars and the moon for him... Because he deserves all that and more.

He is special and has touched the heart of so many people... be it his colleagues, his subordinates, the guests at the hotel where he works or even strangers... he is the only boss I have ever seen who is loved by his team (we generally hate our bosses, don't we? but not his team...), he is a man who will help you, listen to you and offer advice even if it is 12 in the night and he has returned back after completing a 14 hours shift... he is the man who will never say anything bad about anyone, ever... he is the man who will do drop anything to be there for his family & friends... he is the man whom I love to bits!

When I met him almost three years ago, one look at him and I knew... he is different. I was drawn to him and 2 and half years later, ended up marrying him... :) the best thing I ever did :) God Bless him...

P.S. - If you know Prabal Srivastava & want to say anything about him, do drop in a line in the comment section...I bet he would like that... thank you :)

Change

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton Season 2 edition 18; the eighteenth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton.
Just tried a little combination of 55 fiction genre and my 'His & Hers' series...

His

After  his routine drunken night he woke up with a fuzzy head. Slowly, last night flashed before his eyes... the screaming, the beating and her little girl huddled in a corner, shivering with fear... he sighed and resolved to change... for his wife & daughter. He staggered out but saw no one except a note.

Hers

As she sat in front of the mirror looking at her bruised body, she heard her daughter, “will baba hit me too if i disobey?” and she suddenly realised it’s time... for a change. She picked up her girl and left, leaving behind a note, ‘My daughter will not have the same fate as mine.’

Past...

His...

He was sitting at the cafe sipping a hot cup of cappuccino. the meeting had been disastrous. he was thinking about the next step when he thought he saw her. she was sitting a couple of tables from him. he blinked. once. twice. surely that cant be her. she is in another city. but what if it is her? he craned his neck to get a better view. it was her. he rubbed his eyes. it was still her. there was no mistake. she was laughing and playing with a kid. is it hers? it could be... he knew for sure that she was married. he was one of the witnesses at the registrar's office. in fact hadn't he helped her elope two days before their wedding. he smiled sarcastically. our wedding. he thought. if she had not told him that she was in love with some one else and if he was not so unconditionally in love with her then, this could have been their kid. no point thinking about that now. he looked at her again. she was playfully hitting the kid. he decided to go and say hi. he got up when a thought struck him. what am i doing? it took me almost three years to forget those fifteen days that i spent with her? it took me so long to lock her up in the deep recesses of my mind and move on... why am i unlocking it again? what good will that do? he sat down again. i can say hi to her, right? we can be friends? i can ask her how is she? he got up again. i don't love her anymore. i don't. he took a step in her direction when his phone rang. he looked down at his handset.  it was his mother. he looked up at her again. she was laughing throatily at some antic her kid was doing. she is happy in her life, it is time i become happy in mine. he smiled as he answered the phone, "yes ma, i am ready to meet the girl you have chosen. fix up the meeting..." and walked out from the cafe leaving some cash and his past behind.

Hers...
she was babysitting for her sister. her nephew always made her smile, no matter what. she was laughing at his latest antics when she suddenly felt a pang of disappointment. it could have been her kid playing around in the cafe if her husband hadn't forced her to abort their child. that was three years ago. so much had changed in these last three years. she sighed as she sipped her coffee. when she had met her husband... ex-husband that is, she still had trouble referring to him as her ex... she thought she had met the love of her life. she smiled warily. she had done so much for him, she acted so selfish... all because of him. what goes around comes around. she thought sarcastically. she broke the heart of that poor guy who her parents had chosen for her and karma had made sure that her heart was broken as mercilessly as well. she sighed. she could still see the hurt in his eyes when she told him that she loves someone else. she could see his disappointed face when she told him that she plans to run away. she could still hear the determination in his words when he told her that he would make sure she got married to the love of her life. she laughed again. her nephew was trying to wait tables. love of her life... who an year after their marriage decided that he loves someone else. someone who was richer, newly-divorced and thrice his age. it felt like a slap on her face. she was all alone suffering from post-abortion stress and paying of her ex-husband's debts. when things got too rough she went to her family which wasn't easy at all. she had to hear a lot but finally her mother and sister took her side. it had been long three years and now things were finally getting on track... she smiled as she ruffled her nephew's hair. she picked up her cup of coffee and looked around the cafe... and saw him. she squinted her eyes trying to focus. is that him? she kept staring. he was sitting a couple of tables from her and staring into distance. she smiled. she was just thinking about him and here he is. she felt warm. he had loved her. he had never said it but she could always feel it. those fifteen days spent with him were indeed interesting. she wondered whether he was married yet. she got up to say hi when she saw him smiling and talking to someone on the phone. his wife? obviously he must have married someone else... what was she doing? she can't meet him. she almost ruined his life. it was because of her that he must have had to face so much ridicule. now he is happy. she cant go into his life and turn it upside down again. she sat down again and looked at him as he walked out of the cafe and her life.

Is our generation this dumb and retarded?

If you are a loyal reader you must have noticed that I have been quite inactive lately... reason? lack of an Internet connection... and to get it up and running, me and my husband had to go through a lot of trouble and i mean a LOT of trouble! anyway, the connection is restored and I am all set to type away... :)

This last month when i was not connected to the virtual world I got addicted to the telly world (don't judge me! there are only so many books i can read and so many people i can call!! :P ) in the throes of that addiction i started following MTV's 'reality show' Roadies' auditions. yeah yeah i know, it is not real, it is fake... all is scripted... blah blah etc etc...but i liked watching it... maybe because i am a little voyeuristic (i admit it! and i know most of you are too! :P) but mainly because i liked the stand that the judges took vis-a-vie women and certain issues... and i loved the way they blasted the men (and women) who acted like chauvinistic pigs!

to reach the judges' panel for a personal interview, the contestants / aspirants had to fill a form that has questions such as -
  • what do you think about pre marital sex?
  • what is your take on live-in relationships?
  • if your parents disagree with your choice of boyfriend / girlfriend, what would you do?
  • should women wear mini skirts in pubs?
  • what are your views on homosexuality? should it be legalised?
the above mentioned points are just a few examples. there were many more such questions and boy, did the  judges get some varied responses on them! some of them stayed with me, especially the one given by a woman who had cleared her army entrance exam. now, when you are from a city and are educated one expects a certain level of intelligence from you but this woman showed that there is a vast difference between bookish knowledge and actual awareness. when asked should women wear short dresses to pubs she replied - yes they can wear whatever they want but they should be ready to face the consequences. this angered the judges to no end. and i was also a little dismayed. she further continued that these women who wear mini skirts need  a counselling session and then if they still insist on wearing short skimpy outfits, they should not cry if a man makes a comment or if she faces eve teasing. so basically, this 'educated young woman' believed that if another woman is wearing a short outfit and she is raped then it is her fault. the said woman called it upon herself. i was surprised and shocked to hear her justifying her views. one of the judges rightfully corrected her that a woman can wear anything, if she is a victim of eve teasing it is the fault of the men who are doing it. the problem is not in the woman wearing 'revealing' clothes but the problem is with the men who have the thought process that if she is wearing a short dress, she would be 'easy' or 'characterless'. so these men need counselling and not the women. he also added that it is women like her who lead to the downfall of other women. when she would have kids she would tell her daughter that the blame for her being eve teased lies with her and the way she dresses... and she would tell her son that if a woman wears revealing clothes she is a characterless woman. ( i am using the phrase revealing not as a negative term but as a synonym for short dresses or plunging necklines) to tell you the truth i am ashamed to admit it but i also had the similar thought process in my growing up years but thankfully my worldview has expanded... has yours?

that was just one example of the retarded thinking of most of today's youth. the barney brigade as i like to call them. they would want to be like Barney (one-night-stands, drinking, clubbing )but if a woman is a Samantha (from sex and the city) they would not hesitate in using derogatory terms like sluts for them. like there was this guy who said that his sister doesn't go to places like pubs as it is not in our culture. when asked has he been there? his reply was a sheepish yes. so why can he visit a pub but his sister can't? obviously because (a) it is not in our culture and it is only the women who have to follow the so-called Indian ethics and values and (b) she is a good girl and pubs are visited by only loose character women... obviously. (sarcasm alert!)

that was just the tip of the iceberg... there were men who said that premarital sex is okay for them but they would literally kill their sister if she decided to marry someone who was out of their caste (and gave weird senseless and baseless arguments to support this theory as well!)... who believed that premarital sex is illegal (where did that come from? :P )... who believed that people have suddenly turned homosexual and it is a fairly recent phenomenon (that one was unbelievable!)... who thought that a woman who is living-in with their partner is a prostitute (nothing negative was said about the men in the said arrangement though!). Then. there were some contestants thrown in for comic relief like a girl who said that she wanted to work with NASA but didn't know the full form of the same... one guy who agreed with the ayodhya verdict but didn't know what it was (he didn't know what ayodhya was either and had his Ramayana and Mahabharata mixed up!)... one guy who thought rajiv

I can go on and on and on listing the foolishness of the aspirants who wanted to become famous... but i will stop here. however i would love to think your views on the above mentioned 4-5 questions i have listed (in the bullet points)

i hope for the sake of our generation and the one coming after us that all of the content that they have showed till now in this reality show is as unreal as possible and is truly scripted! i want to believe that the younger generation is not as dumb as they have been made out to be on MTV... i want to believe that the coming generation is more aware about their surroundings, are more respectful of the respective opposite sexes, can think beyond bollywood and cricket, has a mind of their own... but most of all i wish that they can break the shackles of age-old convention and stereotypical thinking and are capable of embracing a more logical outlook and a broader worldview.  fingers crossed.
